The British yachtsman, John Fisher, has gone missing after falling overboard during gale force winds in the Southern Ocean during a round-the-world race. He went missing from the yacht SKH/Scallywag 2,200 west of Cape Horn. Fisher, 47, is an experienced big boat sailor who is sailing his first Volvo Ocean Race, according to the team's website but conditions were said to be harsh. This year's Volvo Ocean Race is the longest since the competition began more than 40 years ago. It takes eight months to complete and covers 83,000 kilometres. It is due to end in late June in The Hague, Netherlands.

An update on Team Sun Hung Kai/Scallywag crew member John Fisher, from Richard Brisius, the President of the Volvo Ocean Race ➡️ https://t.co/1dX7ZPlg7B pic.twitter.com/dH1uY9AGHw
— Volvo Ocean Race (@volvooceanrace) March 27, 2018
